Statistics in genetics (Excercise sessions)
An introduction to basic concepts of probability in discrete and continuous space. Some common distributions are introduced in the context of combinatorics and later hypothesis testing. Key concepts such as null and alternative hypothesis, confidence intervals, type I/II errors and \(p\)-values are discussed in the context of (biomedical) problems that the students will likely encounter in their professional careers. Here, we focus on hypothesis testing for means, proportions and indepence. Basic nonparametric tests are also briefly discussed. Students are required to actively use R in solving statistical problems.
Linear models
This course in the Master of Statistics and Data Science focuses on key concepts of linear models theory: the properties of LS estimators are first introduced in the context of simple linear regression. Hypothesis testing for the regression parameters is discussed using instructive data examples. These foundations are later explored in the context of multiple linear regression with continuous and discrete regressors. The student is also introduced to basics concepts of causal inference. My contribution in this course was limited to three workshops on the use of SAS for linear models.
